  Build Scripts for HP-IPL/OS Disk Sims
  =====================================

This "mkdisk" directory should be copied to the "hpiplos" directory from
hpiplos_main.zip, alongside "ipl" "abs" etc. These files are adapted to be
used with the version 1.60 archive.

make_7900.sim - builds hpos7900.abs with 7900 drivers
make_7906i.sim - builds hpos7906i.abs with 7906 and IDE drivers
make_7900_disk.sim - prepares a 7900 disk and boot system using hpos7900.abs
make_7906_disk.sim - prepares a 7906 disk and boot system using hpos6i.abs
make_sfsedit0.sim - builds the sfs/edit build from hpos7900.abs
make_sfsedit6i.sim - builds the sfs/edit build from hpos6i.abs
*.ipl - IPL source files modified from or not in the HP-IPL/OS 1.60 archive

The .sim scripts are for running in the SimH HP2100 simulator. They don't
automatically make the builds etc, rather they load/attach the required files
and print instructions. The hpos7900.abs or hpos6i.abs binary containing the
boot system has to be made first (hpos6i.abs already exists in the 1.6 archive,
edit make_7906_disk.sim to use rebuilt copy), then the make_790x_disk.sim script
should be run to create the disk, load/run the boot extension utility, and
load/run the boot system with instructions for preparing the disk.

The make_sfsedit*.sim scripts create optional SFS/EDIT builds that can be
imported for converting and editing files and other programming uses. The
make_sfsedit6i.sim script is configured to load the exiting hpos6i.abs system
from the 1.6 archive, edit as needed. If the appropriate IPL files are imported
to the disk these builds can be made from within the simulation.

Feel free to edit the scripts as needed for different options but beware of
page errors, things have to be arranged "just right" to ensure that machine
code does not cross a 1KW boundary. The included options for this system
were chosen to provide utilities for maniplulating ABS files and to support
using MSU BASIC, and in the case of the 7906 build, permit directly copying
the disk image to an IDE disk (conv=swab), while leaving enough memory free
for running IPL applications (barely).

The following IPL apps are supported... must be named as indicated...

$ FED  - the full-screen array editor from aedit.ipl
$ MAZE - the maze game from ../ipl/maze.ipl
$ 1DCA - the automata generator from ../ipl/1dca.ipl
$ LIFE - the LIFE generator from ../ipl/life.ipl
$ ECAL - the electronics calculator from ../ipl/ecal.ipl

The menu can directly execute 31KW (or less) binaries imported from ABS
files provided they're configured with compatible slots (CLK=10, TTY=11).
These include but are not limited to msubasic.abs from msubasic.zip, and
the ABS files in the absgames.zip file containing BCS and MSU BASIC games.
To display on the menu the disk name must begin with @[space] as in @ TREK.
Text files named # FILENAME will be listed on the menu for displaying.

FED/AEDIT can only edit files in "array" form, starting with 1.51F of the
7906 disk simulation all included IPL files and IPL apps have been converted
to editable format. This was done mostly using the (fixed) SFS/EDIT build
and using "FILE" LDTXT followed by "FILE" SVFILE and confirming the delete.
The SFS.IPL file was too big so split into 2 parts (off-line) and imported
(along with others) using MALOAD - attach ptr file.ipl and continue, MALOAD
when it hangs control-E then run 2 (because I didn't bother to add the
~TERMINATE~ line to make it automatically end) then "FILE.IPL" SVFILE to
save to disk in array format.
